A critically acclaimed North West tapas restaurant is heading for Liverpool’s former Vincent Café and Cocktail Bar later this year.
Simon Shaw, chef patron and creative director of El Gato Negro on Manchester’s King Street, has confirmed plans to open a second branch of the award-winning eatery.
Serving seasonally influenced tapas dishes, the concept launched in Manchester in 2016 and has since achieved a Michelin Bib Gourmand for three years running and an AA rosette.
A date for the Liverpool launch has not been specified at this stage.
Ahead of the opening at the Exchange Flags site, Shaw says: “I am really looking forward to opening a second El Gato Negro restaurant. Liverpool’s an incredible city and I love the community spirit and vibe there.
“The restaurant has been so popular in Manchester that it only seemed right to bring the venue to a second city in the North and Liverpool seemed like the perfect fit.”
Renowned Liverpool-born chef Aiden Byrne, backed by Medusa Hospitality, had previously planned to relaunch the Vincent Café & Cocktail bar, which was owned by Steven Gerrard and Paul Adams, as The Metropolitan Bar & Grill Rooms however plans fell through.
