Vacant office space in Liverpool’s commercial district could be transformed into an aparthotel for the city’s business visitors under new plans.
Ware Construction has applied to Liverpool City Council to convert the Grade II-listed Customs House building on Union Street, near Old Hall Street.
The building was originally developed as housing but has been refurbished for commercial use, and in a planning document the applicant says: “We propose to convert the building into an aparthotel, to provide potential accommodation for people visiting the city for business.
“The scheme would see the building return to an original use as a dwelling, creating highly desirable accommodation within the heart of the business district of the city through empathic design towards modern and lifestyle whilst retaining as much of the original features and character of the listed building repairing like for like wherever possible.”
Accommodation would be provided across the building’s basement, ground, first, second and third floors if the plans are given the go ahead.
