Liverpool’s business community will have access to free blood pressure checks next week as part of a national awareness campaign.
Know your Numbers! encourages adults across the UK to know their blood pressure and take the necessary action to reach and maintain a healthy level.
An estimated 5.5 million people are currently unaware they have high blood pressure which can be the sign of underlying health problems including diabetes, kidney disease and lupus.
Having regular checks and treatment reduces your risk of developing heart disease by 17%, your risk of stroke by 27% and your risk of heart failure by 28%.
A major study hit national headlines this week highlighting that four out of five UK adults have hearts which are more damaged than they should be for their age, putting them at greater risk of early death.
Experts have said people need to take greater responsibility for monitoring their own health, chiefly their blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
In a bid to raise awareness, Liverpool-based health, safety and wellbeing consultancy Health@Work will be holding drop-in sessions for members of the business and professional communities to get their blood pressure checked for free.
Health@Work will also be offering practical advice on how to manage high or low blood pressure.
The drop-in sessions will be held at the company’s Mann Island headquarters in Avenue HQ on the following dates:
