Buildings across the region are in the running for top architectural accolades as the RIBA North West Awards shortlist is announced.
Twelve projects will compete at the 2017 ceremony when it takes place at the Manchester School of Art on 24 May.
In Manchester nominated buildings include Cambridge Street by Hodder + Partners, City Football Academy by Rafael Viñoly Architects, Finlays Warehouse by Stephenson Studio, Maggie’s at the Robert Parfett Building by Foster + Partners, XYZ by Cartwright Pickard, Stubbs Hill by Sixtwo Architects and Stoller Hall at Chetham’s School of Music by Stephenson Studio.
Liverpool’s Royal Court theatre by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris and Liverpool Philharmonic by Caruso St John have also been shortlisted alongside fellow nominees including Oldham Town Hall by BDP, Salford’s Foundry by Sixtwo Architects and Blackburn Bus Station by Capita.
The RIBA North West jury chair says: “There are some wonderfully talented designers working in the North West and 12 very different projects have been shortlisted for the 2017 RIBA North West Awards.
“This is never an easy task but these 12 shortlisted buildings, with differing functions, scales and budgets, are all memorable and each has achieved that unexpectedly special quality that makes them stand out as significant to the architecture of the North West.”
