A new Toxteth shipping container retail scheme is scheduled to start taking shape this autumn after being granted planning permission.
Developer CanCo is hoping to “add to the buzz” of the existing mix of retailers on Liverpool’s Lodge Lane after receiving approval for the project yesterday (28 August).
Back in April this year the developer revealed plans to create 14 new spaces for local retailers and entrepreneurs by using refurbished, insulated shipping containers with glazed frontages.
The complex, planned for a site bounded by Lodge Lane and Grierson Street, takes inspiration from similar schemes in London’s Shoreditch and Brixton areas.
Following Liverpool City Council planning committee’s decision to approve the project, CanCo director Nathan Schreiber says: “Lodge Lane has a great vibe created by a unique mix of local retailers and we want our scheme to add to the buzz.
“Our focus will be on providing low-cost, easy-in, easy-out space for local and city-wide entrepreneurs whilst extending Lodge Lane’s prime pitch northwards.
“ We’ve had some great input from local councillors and want to thank them for being so constructive.”
The developer has confirmed that the scheme is expected to reach completion early in spring 2019.
