Plans submitted for 1.8m sq ft St Helens logistics park

Plans are in for a new 1.8 million sq ft logistics and industrial park in St Helens.

Peel Investments (North) Limited has submitted the outline application for the £141m Haydock Point, which has the potential to accommodate a single unit of up to 1m sq ft.

The proposed scheme, which would incorporate a new junction on the A580 East Lancashire Road, is said to be in response to an identified shortage of suitable sites for large scale employment development in the borough,

The site for the park adjoins Junction 23 of the M6 and Neil Dickinson, chief operating officer of Peel Logistics Property, says: “Haydock Point is an oven-ready site for large scale occupiers.

“The location of the site at Junction 23, close to markets and with available labour, provides the perfect conditions for a premium logistics and industrial park.”

If Haydock Park is granted planning permission, around 2,500 jobs are expected to be created on site once the development has been completed. In turn, £80m annual GVA would be contributed to the local economy along with £3.5m in annual business rates revenue.

A Local Employment Strategy has been drawn up to maximise the access to employment opportunities for local people and help improve local economic activity and employment rates.

Peel Investments (North) Limited anticipates a decision on the outline planning application by July 2017.
