Green light for Spinningfields boutique hotel

Planning permission has been granted for a new 145-bed boutique hotel in Manchester’s Spinningfields.

KE Hotels and Henry Boot Developments (HBD) have confirmed construction of the nine-storey Moxy by Marriott hotel will get underway within six months.

Situated on Atkinson Street and Scott Place, the 58,800 sq ft Silk Works scheme will sit on the site of the existing Invicta House.

Moxy launched in 2016 with its first hotel in Milan and debuted in the UK in December last year at Aberdeen International Airport.

Dean Thompson, regional manager for HBD in the North West, says: “We’re pleased to be working with Khanna Enterprises to bring the Moxy brand to Manchester – the Silk Works is a beautiful heritage building, so it will be great to see it back to its best and bringing something new to the city.

“We’ve had overwhelmingly positive feedback since submitting the change of use application back in May and the team is looking forward to getting started.”

Anil Khanna, director of Khanna Enterprises, adds: “KE Hotels are looking forward to developing and operating Moxy by Marriott in Spinningfields which has become the city’s leading business destination and a place to eat, drink and shop. It is very exciting for this location to be the only hotel in Spinningfields.”

According to a planning document included with the application, it’s estimated that between 38,000 and 41,000 room nights will be sold per year at the new hotel – a 50/50 split between leisure and corporate guests.

ICA Architects has been appointed architect for the scheme.
