A major mixed-use regeneration scheme in Sale town centre could move a step closer next week.
The £70 million project features 30,000 sq ft of new retail and leisure space including a six-screen cinema.
Plans from developer Maloneview also include a new 281-space multi-storey car park as well as 202 homes – made up of 18 townhouses and 184 apartments.
To make way for the new development, The Square Shopping Centre would be partially demolished along with the existing multi-storey and attached elevated road.
A total of nine units are envisaged for the retail part of the scheme – three within the cinema building and six within a new terrace.
According to a website for the project, the scheme will “revitalise Sale town centre” and see it become a “more attractive entertainment and leisure destination”.
A report to Trafford Council’s planning and development management committee, which will meet next Thursday (14 March), is recommending that members be minded to grant permission for the scheme.
The report says: “It is intended that the cinema would provide a major new asset for the town centre which would be complemented by new eating and dining experiences, including family restaurants, and a more variable retail composition.
“This diversification in uses is important in seeking to ensure that the town centre would remain a vital destination at all times of the day.”
