Law firm Weightmans is helping to develop the skills of young people in Liverpool as it funds a team of Tall Ship trainees.
City trio Karl Lane, 22, Matthew Fox, 26 and 18-year-old Jasmine Miller boarded the Tall Ship Maybe in Belfast at the weekend as part of a Sail Training Ireland initiative, and will be stopping off in Liverpool tomorrow (3 June) as part of their adventure.
The scheme, which sees young adults with no, or limited, maritime experience become part of a crew for eight days, has been put in place as part of the International Mersey River Festival in partnership with Kier Group.
The trainees, who will move in to Dublin’s Port River Festival from the North West, will give their Weightmans sponsors a tour of the ship during their stop in Liverpool.
Nick Peel, partner at Weightmans, says: “We are very pleased to support the Sail Training programme. This is an excellent initiative which gives young people a real opportunity to experience something different and grow their skills in team working and delegation.
“Supporting young people from the local community is a vital part of the charity work we do at Weightmans and we look forward to seeing how these young people get on as part of a ship’s crew – it should certainly be a valuable experience and create lasting memories.”
